Spring in Osage County is something special. The prairie turns green and gold, wildflowers sweep across the hills, and the weather hits that perfect sweet spot — warm enough for hiking, cool enough that you don't melt. If you've been thinking about planning a visit, this is the season to do it.
Watch the Prairie Come Alive
The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve near Pawhuska is the largest protected remnant of tallgrass prairie on earth, and spring is when it's at its most stunning. Bison calves are born in March and April — look for the orange-brown "red dogs" running alongside their mothers. By late April, the wildflowers begin their show: Indian paintbrush, coneflowers, and prairie verbena carpeting the hills.

Hike Osage Hills State Park
A short drive from Bartlesville, Osage Hills State Park has eight miles of trails that wind through sandstone bluffs, oak forests, and alongside creeks. Spring is the ideal time to hike — the dogwoods and redbuds are blooming, the creeks are full, and you won't be fighting the summer heat.

Explore Historic Pawhuska
Pawhuska is having a moment, and spring is when the town really shines. Stop by The Pioneer Woman Mercantile for breakfast, browse the Osage Nation Museum (the oldest tribal museum in the United States), and walk the historic downtown. The Constantine Theater — a beautifully restored 1914 opera house — often has events in the spring.
